Interesting Parallel

This week I read Liberating Ministry from the Success Syndrome by Kent and Barbara Hughes. He alludes to an interesting parallel between John 13:1-17 (Jesus washing the disciples' feet) and Philippians 2:5-11 (the kenosis) that I had never noticed before:

Jesus did not consider equality with God something to be grasped.
He left his seat and got up from the meal.

Jesus made himself nothing, taking the very nature of servant.
He took off his outer clothing and wrapped a towel around his waist.

Jesus became obedient to death on the cross (pouring out his blood to cleanse us).
He poured water into a basin and began to wash and dry the disciples’ feet.

Therefore, God exalted Jesus.
When he had finished, he put on his clothes and returned to his place at the table.
