McLaren's Take on TULIP

Reading Brian McLaren's book A Generous Orthodoxy. It is interesting in many ways. In his chapter on Fundamentalism and Calvinism, he suggests a new TULIP for the postmodern age. Here it is:

T - Triune Love

Rather than seeing God as judicial, in the postmodern era, we need to see God as community.

U - Unselfish Election

The biblically-defined purpose of election is service, not merely salvation. We are chosen to be God's agents in the world today.

L - Limitless Reconciliation

Rather than focusing on who's in and who's out, we need to focus on extending love, mercy, grace, and forgiveness to our neighbors and enemies.

I - Inspiring Grace

We ought to emphasize the power of grace, not the coercion of it.

P - Passionate, Persistent Saints

With faith, hope, and love, followers of Jesus Christ need to persevere.

These are interesting thoughts.
