State of the Union

Got to say - I am not terribly excited about the SofU address. Maybe it was so many campaign speeches that I heard throughout 2004. Nonetheless, it's the only thing on, so I will share my comments along the way.

Loved the beginning ... US, Afghanistan, Palestine, Ukraine, Iraq.

The speech will seek to answer the question, what will be the state of our children's union.

Democrats look petty when they don't applaud economic advancements.

Budget plan sounds good: restrained spending, permanent tax cuts, cuts deficit in half by 2009. Very good.

"Tax payers' dollars need to be spent wisely or not at all." Great line.

I like the fact that the education issue is part of the overall economic strategy.

Very good that they are calling it "legal reform" not "tort reform." Can make the case better to the American people that way.

Immigration ... this is a huge issue on the horizon ... but how, Mr. President, how are we going to have both opened and closed borders?

Very good - we are not imposing Americanism on anyone. We are simply seeking a global community of free peoples. "The advance of freedom will lead to peace."

Not since the fall of the Berlin Wall and the Evil Empire has freedom spread so quickly.

"Secretary of State Rice" I like the sound of that.

It is nice to see the President concern himself again with Israel and Palestine. It is easier now that Arafat is gone.

Iraq is a vital front in the War on Terror. Fighting the terrorists in Iraq so that we do not have to face them here at home. Reason #1 why I voted for Bush.
