Bush Administration Objects to .xxx Domains

I have blogged about this in the past, but it seems to me that if the internet had a .xxx domain, all pornographic sites could/should be required to use it. Therefore, it would be easier to block such sites and protect kids and families from porn on the net. I don't think that the creation of such a domain would be a support of pornography, but rather a step toward containing it. Apparently, the administration doesn't see it this way. Am I alone on this? What do you think?

I think it is a great idea in order to restrict the sites. It seems the administration doesn't want to seem like they condone the use of pornographic sites. They would rather ignore the issue than anger extreme conservatives who would probably rather see them try to ban poronographic sites altogether.

What's wrong with porn?

Another thing to consider is that the internet is not an American object to control. Yes putting .xxx sites all in one area is a great idea to control the internet, but simple objecting to it or subscribing to it doesn't mean you can enforce it.

So if the .xxx sites are made available and some form of government decides that Playboy now has to switch over to playboy.xxx doesn't mean that the government can enforce it. It probably would create a legal battle costing billions of dollars. Yes the outcome if it makes it easier for parents to control what their children are seeing is worth every penny, but I don't know if this is a rift that this administration wants to take on. It may be a timing issue. REALLY close to the a new vote for a new presidency and something that could push the vote away from republicans.

I just don't think that the timing is right.
