Bad Day for Republicans

Wow, yesterday was a bad day for Republicans and for the President.

- Bush-backed Republicans lost the governor races in Virginia and New Jesery.
- All 4 of Arnold's innitatives lost in California.
- The pro-Bush Democrat running for mayor of St. Paul lost.
- All other Democrats running for mayor in major cities won (Bloomberg is a Republican in name only).

The only GOP win came in (surprise) Texas where a ban on gay marriage was passed.

I am sure there will be a lot of analysis about this. Frankly, it has me a bit concerned about the midterm elections in 2006. But, I am not panicking yet. The President is certainly in a funk with the leak investigation and the Harriet Miers thing. But hopefully a fight over Alito will reenergize the base. Also, the President's team has got to be thinking of ways to reframe the debate about Iraq.

so many fronts ... so many losses ...

Greetings from Virginia:
True the Democrats won the governorshipby a very narrow margin. But the Republicans won the Leutenant Governor defeating a woman and the Atorney General is too close to call. There will be a recount. The Republicans still control the Legislature. It doesn't sound like a repudiation of the Republicians just a very close election. Take heart!
