Thank You for Smoking

Cathy told me today that she saw a trailer for the new movie Thank You for Smoking. I had no idea that this was coming out, but I am now so excited about. It is due out in March.

The movie is based on the book by Christopher Buckley and will be a satirical look into the life of Big Tobacco's public relations representative. There are some big names in the movie, including Rob Lowe, Katie Holmes, and Robert Duvall, but I guess that is no guarantee that it will be any good. Still, I am excited!

I love Christopher Buckley. He is the son of William F. Buckley, the patriarch of the conservative movement in America. Christopher writes hilarious books. I first read White House Mess when I was in high school. The opening scene is inauguration day 1989 and Ronald Reagan refuses to leave the White House. It just gets funnier from there!

My favorite Christopher Buckley book is Little Green Men. It is about how NASA fakes alien abductions at Area 51 to spur public opinion toward further NASA funding. I am not sure I have ever laughed harder in my life - Vanessa can attest to this - than I did reading that book.

Other greats are No Way to Treat a First Lady and Florence of Arabia. If you have never read one of these, do so! And I will review the movie as soon as it comes out.

:gulp: Being a Christopher Buckley groupie makes me a big geek, doesn't it?
