The other day my kids came to pick me up from work and spent a couple of minutes chatting with my friend Kerri, whose desk is lined with toy frogs, musical instruments, even a Godzilla keychain. Later, they kept talking about how cool Kerri's desk was because of all the toys. The next day, when I told Kerri about what the kids said, she told me that when she was young, she used to enjoy going to her dad's work because he had all sorts of toys on his desk. "Adult toys," in her words. I don't think she meant what it sounded like she said, but I laughed hard nonetheless.
One of the fun things about closing a kids' book club is the free junk I've been getting. The buyers have been loading me up with goodies to take home to my kids - books, stickers, toys and stuff. Last week, David gave me a Ball of Whacks that he had gotten at a toy show in New York last month.
Rarely, have I had so much fun with some plastic pyramids and magnets. It is one cool adult toy.
