October has always been my favorite month. I love the weather cooling down. I love the trees changing colors - brown and orange. I love that football is on and apple cider is available.
Honestly, in recent years, I have come to dread October. Because it is Pastor Appreciation Month. And frankly, I haven't always felt appreciated as a pastor. I know that I don't serve for the praise. But for a words of affirmation and gifts guy, the deafening October silence was depressing - literally depressing.
And then came October 2007. The month in which our church bought us a car. The month in which my long-hoped for iPod anonymously arrived. I don't think I have ever felt more appreciated than I have the last couple of weeks - and humbled, and completely overwhelmed.
What can I say? Thanks to Aaron, who has been my own personal game show host this month. And to whoever you are, Mr. or Miss iPod Buyer, thanks. Thanks so much. It probably seems silly, but what you did means so much to me. You made grace happen in my life.
The very first song played on my new iPod was U2's Grace.

Personal game show host, I'll have to add that to my business card. Me likey.
I guess I need a game show host. The silence over here is pretty deafening . . . and the month is almost over.
Hmm...this, of course, has nothing to do with anything, "a", but--out of idle curiosity--how do you feel about hawks?
I used to be a Chicago Blackhawks fan, does that count?
Ah! A vaguely favorable answer...excellent.
