That's what we're all thinking, right? Have you read
this article about a California company that has found a way to get microscopic bugs to excrete crude oil? Yeah, you read that right. It's a long way from decreasing our dependence on foreign oil, as the politicians would say, but the thing I love most about this story is that it highlights people in the private sector in the process of finding workable solutions to the problems we face. Free market. No government interference needed. I'll buy the shitty oil when it's ready.

The free market is a glorious things. I honestly believe it is a blessing sent to us straight from God.
Here's an article about biodiesel produced from algae. Algae doesn't require biomass input since it can create it's own via photosynthesis. The only inputs it really requires are mineral nutrients which can be supplied through fertilizer runoff from our agricultural efforts, so that it can produce fuel for us and help purify our water.

My worry is that the alarmist/regulatory types are going to cause us to gut our economy and make us waste our resources on dead-ends, making it impossible to integrate the energy generating technologies that do work into our society.
