I dunno. As much as I love Bono, when forced to choose between a guy who may have helped avoid nuclear holocaust and a guy who played fantastic music and used his platform to help diminish poverty, I'd probably go with the nuclear guy too.
Here's the thing - what has happened on this guy's watch? N. Korea and Iran both began nuclear programs. India and Pakistan both developed nuclear weapons and came to the brink of nuclear war. And Iraq and Lybia would have followed suit if it weren't for the big stick of the US military. All of that is not including the continued destabilization of the former USSR's nuclear capabilities.
Give it to Bono. At least he sings well and sells records. That's an accomplishment.
