Of Glands and Grace

I have been reflecting for a couple of days on these words from Paul's letter to Titus, as translated by Eugene Peterson in The Message: Remix. Got any thoughts?

It wasn't so long ago that we ourselves were stupid and stubborn, dupes of sin, ordered every which way by our glands, going around with a chip on our shoulder, hated and hating back. But when God, our kind and loving Savior God, stepped in, he saved us from all that. It was all his doing; we had nothing to do with it. He gave us a good bath, and we came out of it new people, washed inside and out by the Holy Spirit. Our Savior Jesus poured out new life so generously. God's gift has restored our relationship with him and given us back our lives. And there's more life to come - an eternity of life! You can count on this.

I think that if we really lived like that was true we would be a christian community that is much more biblical and passionate. I think it would revolutionalize our view of ourselves and release us from all the doubts and insecurities that entangle us.

Maybe it's just that now (with the Holy Spirit) we have the potential to live like this. Unfortunately, some of us (I) choose to continue being stupid, stubborn and hating. Sometimes. But sometimes, I tap into that Holy Spirit potential.

We're in Bentonville. My wife just googled emergent nwa and found you. I may have seen you around the Ooze. We may have seen you in RL at Fellowship (we've visited there some). So, anyway, hi!

Kingsjoy, thanks for stopping by the Grenz. We should get coffee sometime. My wife and I just moved to NWA to launch an emerging church. ~ Robb
