He makes a compelling argument. It seems like he is approaching politics how we are approaching church, and that is welcome. I might have to be pursuaded not to vote for him.

He's pro-abortion, pro-gay rights, anti-Iraq war, pro-government solutions to our problems, and probably pro-gun control.

Is it bad that the gun control part of that might be the one I choke on the most?

I do have to gloat about this though; I called it months ago that he would run, and probably end up being our next President.

Robb's right on the gun control: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barack_Obama

He's more than pro-abortion. He sponsored a bill in Illinois that would have allowed "aborting" a child AFTER he/she was born in cases of pre-mature birth. Is that the kind of different approach you want?
I agree, a new voice is needed. And Jesus Christ isn't affiliated w/any political party, but c'mon, is this the best alternative to politics as usual?

Some considerations:

- The US has only elected one Senator as President, JFK, and he won by a Florida-2000 kind of margin over Nixon in 1960.

- Senators have voting records that can be twisted and used against them, "I voted for it before I voted against it." This might actually work slightly in Obama's favor since he has only been a Senator since 2000, his voting record is smaller than, say John Kerry's was. On the whole, however, Americans prefer to elect those with executive experience (governors, mayors?) to the chief executive position.

- Obama is probably electable in the general election, but he is not nearly as connected for the Democrat primary as Hilary or even Bill Richardson. He also doesn't seem to have the support of the civil rights leadership, as the article I posted a couple of days ago suggests.

But, he can speak awful nice like.

He's got Oprah's army behind him, that's for sure.
