Small Ramparts for the Soul

My friend Kevin had mentioned a small stone chapel in Fayetteville not far from my work. I went hunting for it one day and discovered a little slice of heaven, St. Catherines at Bell Gable. There is a small stone chapel, a creak with stone benches next to it, beautiful green lawns, and a quaintness you can't buy at Walmart.

I took Vanessa and Charleigh there on Friday, and it was like the final scene of Notting Hill - there was a long-haired man practicing karate. There was a group of elderly people driving a Model-T around in the parking lot. There was a lady reading by the creek.

I think I will go back there often.

I need to go there. I have lived a long time and never seen it before.

Take Mt. Comfort Road out of Fayetteville. Right before it takes a sharp curve to the right, turn left on Stone Chapel Rd. Go over the rickety wooden bridge, and you're there. Very nice place. A place we could espace to smoke some cigars and plan/dream/talk/hang.

The "small ramparts for the soul" is taken from a Sara Groves song about why beauty matters. I thought it was appropriate for this place!

It's an absolute jewel box...I felt an absolutely child-like rush of wonder at the sight of it...

I'm pretty sure you could get to Narnia if you leaned on the right tree-trunk.

jbhart...I'm sure you meant to type in the word "here" somwhere in your post, so I ended up with a mental picture of you stroking a long white beard while making that comment.
